Aging studies in the Nordic
A Nordic pathway in ageing studies across five universities in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
What is NordMaG?
NordMaG is a multidisciplinary master’s level specialisation in gerontology, equivalent to 30 ECTS of elective courses that you complete as part of an existing master’s programme at one of the partner universities. It focuses on key issues in ageing societies and brings together Nordic expertise from health sciences, social sciences, and behavioural sciences.
Population ageing affects all areas of society – health and social care, pensions, work and retirement, housing, and everyday life. NordMaG educates professionals who can use, communicate, and create research-based knowledge about ageing and later life, and who can contribute to the future development of welfare systems and services for older adults.
Teaching in NordMaG is in English, and courses are offered across the Nordic region through a network of five universities that have long-standing strengths in gerontology and ageing research.
NordMaG is governed by a NordMaG Board with two representatives from each partner university. The Board oversees the academic quality of the courses, decides on changes to the course portfolio, coordinates joint quality assurance activities, and seeks external funding for student and staff mobility.
Each university appoints local NordMaG contact persons (for example, a programme director) who are responsible for day-to-day coordination, student guidance, and communication with their international offices and the NordMaG Board.
